Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University–Worldwide Campus (ERAU-W) seeks a tenure-track assistant professor with a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field with a specialization in crisis and/or risk communication. Applicants who are ABD with dissertations near completion and who are scheduled to graduate before August 1, 2025 will also be considered.

The Department of Humanities and Communication offers a Bachelor of Science in Communication degree with two specializations: Aviation, Science, and Technology Communication and Crisis, Risk, and Resilience Communication. The department also offers two Communication minors and a minor in Humanistic STEM, and it hosts the first-year writing program. Further, it offers general education courses in speech, business and technical communication, literature, and humanities.

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a strong teaching record and will be able to help the department create and support course offerings for the Crisis, Risk, and Resilience Communication specialization in the major and for the minor.

The candidate will also maintain an exemplary level of research and scholarly activity related to crisis and risk communication. ERAU offers a variety of internal research support programs, including college- and university-level funding opportunities. Service responsibilities for this candidate are likely to include a leadership role helping to support and grow the Communication major and minors as well as participation on departmental, college, and/or university committees.

In addition to upper-level communication courses for the program, teaching duties are also likely to include general education courses in communication and may include crisis, risk and resilience-focused communication courses in other relevant programs in the college. The typical teaching load for tenure-track faculty at ERAU-Worldwide is seven courses per year, distributed across four nine-week terms. Teaching modalities primarily include asynchronous and synchronous online delivery. A limited number of face-to-face offerings may be available based on faculty location. Course releases are available to support significant research and institutional service contributions.

This is a fully remote online position (within the United States) with no relocation required; faculty travel at least once per year to attend commencement and mandatory college meetings and events.
