Description Of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Center for Energy Water Sustainability ( CEWS ) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( CEE ), provides world-class research and innovative solutions to promote collaboration between CSU and outside partners such as local governments, private sector/industry members, Department of Defense and non-profit organizations.

The CEE Department at CSU is recognized both nationally and internationally for its education, research, and service and outreach programs, and is ranked in the top 40 of such programs in the USA . The CEE Department consists of 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 16 research scientists/scholars, 27 research associates, and 11 administrative professionals. Position Summary

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University ( CSU ) is seeking an experienced hydrology and hydraulics engineer to support the projects with CEWS . This includes the knowledge and use of GIS , HEC - HMS , HEC - RAS 2D and Excel. This is a 1-year full-time position with annual/sick leave and health and retirement benefits at CSU Fort Collins, CO. Should funding allow, this position may be eligible for extension beyond the one-year timeline, contingent on successful execution of project deliverables and performance evaluation. Required Job Qualifications

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering or closely related degree
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Hydrology and Hydraulics
    • Experience in GIS , HEC - HMS , HEC - RAS 2D and ADCIRC
    • Experience working with DoD projects and databases from FEMA , NOAA and USGS
    • Experience with databases, Excel and GIS preprocessing
    • Experience with coastal modeling
    • Experience with remote sensing applications
Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate results effectively through scientific visualizations, publications and presentations.
  • Experience working in a research-oriented environment

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Hydraulic Modeling

Duty/Responsibility

  • Review provided spatial data
  • Pre-processing of spatial data – editing DEMs to connect streams, combining with open source data to fill data gaps.
  • Generate hydrographs and hyetographs for hydraulic models
  • Build hydraulic models in HEC - RAS 2D using the data provided ( DEM , Land Cover, Boundaries etc.)
  • Export and Package Results
  • Post Processing of results to remove outliers
