Are you looking to…
- Apply your passion and expertise to identify, assess, protect, and remediate the natural and built environments
- Act as the Technical Advisor on a diverse portfolio of environmental site assessment and remediation programs for a variety of clients across multiple sectors including infrastructure, municipalities, oil and gas, and pipelines
- Oversee development of simple to complex contaminated site investigations including excess soil management, due diligence environmental site assessment, remediation activities, and monitoring programs
- Develop proposals and respond to RFPs, including development of scope, budget, and schedule
- Acts as a client manager to understand customer needs and distributes work assignments and proposals to appropriate
- Work with industry‑leading professionals within a multi-disciplinary team
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior and intermediate environmental staff on routine assessment, remediation and monitoring projects.

As a
Senior Contaminant Hydrogeologist or Environmental Engineer, you will join our
Guelph or Mississauga, Ontario office as part of our Assessment and Remediation team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:
- Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety culture
- Provide technical advice and oversee the implementation of a wide range of projects including Phase One and Two ESAs in accordance with CSA and O.Reg. 153/104 Standards and application of excess soil regulation O.Reg. 406/19.
- Oversee various projects for a diverse group of clients, including: work plan development, resource allocation, budget/cost control, schedule tracking, report preparation, technical direction and review, and proactive client management
- Provide senior review to ensure the deliverable of high quality proposals and reports that meet our clients’ unique project needs
- Provide technical advisory, oversight, and review on contaminated sites projects, ensuring defensible analysis on behalf of Matrix clients
- Create and maintain excellent relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and project team members
- Mentor junior and intermediate team members
What We Are Looking For
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering, or a related field
- Professional registration in Ontario (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) is required
- A minimum of 10 years of work experience with experience in a similar role preferably within a consulting environment
- Qualified Person (QP; other than risk assessment) as per Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Ontario Regulation (O.Reg.) 153/04, as amended
- Extensive working knowledge of relevant MECP regulations, specifically: O.Reg. 153/04, as amended (Records of Site Condition); O.Reg 406/19 (On-Site and Excess Soil Management)
- Previous working knowledge with the Canada Energy Regulator is considered an asset
- Previous risk assessment experience including application of tools such as MGRA is considered an asset
- Service-oriented with an entrepreneurial drive
- Experience writing technical reports and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), and a collaborative attitude
- A valid class G driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record

This is a permanent position with a salary range of $102,000-$155,000 , starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
