Responsibilities:

As a Complex Claims Specialist, you'll be responsible for handling the company’s most complex and/or high-exposure liability claims using strong coverage analysis, investigative, evaluation and resolution skills. We'll trust you to conduct prompt evaluation and reserving of claims. You'll also need to leverage strong negotiation and litigation management skills to effectively manage loss cost. You'll manage the customer experience. 

 

We'll count on you to:

  • Handle complex and high exposure claim files from intake to final disposition.  Responsible for timely coverage analysis and communication of coverage positions. Will conduct liability investigations and evaluate and reserve loss exposures in a timely manner. 
  • Effectively manage claim expenses and set case strategies. Re-evaluate exposures and reserves during the life of the claim.  Correctly enter claim data into claim and related business systems for reporting purposes. Confer with Claims management to inform, solicit input and strategize and update large loss and reinsurance reports.
  • Provide technical advise and guidance to claims staff through effective coaching and mentoring.  Participate in pre-trial and roundtable discussions designed to assure timely and accurate claim files reserves and resolution of claim.
  • Participate in the claim file/law firm audit process to assure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in special projects designed to improve organizational performance.  Coordinate and conduct technical training for claims staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Business and/or Law; or 10 years related experience with high-level, complex claims adjusting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel.
  • Completion of or working towards AIC, CPCU, SCLA or similar designation.
  • Strong litigation management skills and ability to direct and control the litigation process by setting the claim strategy.

     

  • Strong negotiation and litigation management skills to effectively manage loss cost.

     

  • In-depth multi-jurisdictional knowledge of insurance coverage, laws and regulations.

     

  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, problem analysis, and problem resolution skills.

     

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

     

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate and/or negotiate with various audiences.

     

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

     

  • Organizational skills to effectively establish work priorities in accordance with claims best practices.

     

  • High sense of urgency, action-oriented and strong work ethic.

     

  • Ability to travel overnight as needed for training, auditing or claims handling.
