About The Position
Velosio is looking for a Data Architect to be an integral member of the DPS Team.
The
Data Architect will be responsible for providing guidance and deployment to customers in the structure, integration, monitoring, storage, and governance of data. You will have experience with creating data pipelines and flows to and between business applications and data repositories. You will have a technical and business understanding and conversancy on approaches to industry leading deployments of Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, Data Marts, and the progression of data from raw/bronze to curated/gold environments with an interest in all tools/technologies sitting below Microsoft Fabric. Approaches and expertise to high transaction volume deployments a requirement. It is beneficial to have an understanding of Data Modeling and tabular object model or semantic layer development as well as Microsoft Power BI capability. You will also support the deployment of our Microsoft-based business applications and migrations / integrations with other additional business apps in the enterprise market space as well as our SMB customers of size. You will provide guidance around the development of unique repeatable offerings as they relate to both horizontal and industry vertical customers. The candidate must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple customer types, teams, systems, and products. Excellent written and verbal skills are a requirement with total comfort presenting and defending assessments, designs, approaches, and technology choices. Being naturally curious and technology-focused is a key to success with a desire to explore, understand, and deploy AI/ML models. Mentoring of clients and team members a key to success reflecting a desire to lead.
Your Day Might Look Like
- Architect data focused soluitons and use of data within client organizations
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes to load data and support enterprise reporting capabilities
- Collaborating with analytics and business teams to assess and improve data governance and flow that feed operational, financial, and business intelligence tools
- Developing and maintaining scalable data pipelines and building out / deploying new API’s integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity
- Use of strong T-SQL skills including Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Manipulation Language (DML), views, functions, stored procedures, or performance tuning
- Implementing Data Governance processes and systems to monitoring data quality, master data management, enhanced security, and redundancy by ensuring production data is always accurate and available for key stakeholders and business processes that depend on it
- Deployed and conversant in all technologies related to data warehousing, operational data stores, data lakes, etc.
- Working closely with a team of front-end and back-end engineers, product managers, and analysts
- Defines company data assets using data models, data catalogs, and data dictionaries
- Develop Spark-based code in either Azure Databricks or Synapse Notebooks using Spark SQL, PySpark, Scala and/or HiveQL to populate data models
- Write both batch and streaming jobs as necessary, with the understanding of when to use each type
- Designing and evaluating open source and vendor tools for data lineage
- Working closely with all business units and engineering teams to develop strategies for long-term data platform architecture
- Knowledge of current AI/ML techniques, tools, and technologies with a practical focus on predictive and prescriptive outcomes
- Mentor client and Velosio team members with a strong desire to lead
What You'll Bring
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- 8+ years of increased focus on data
- 8+ years of SQL/Azure tools experience
- 8+ years of experience with data schema design and modeling
- 8+ years of integration/analytics experience
- Experience in structuring solutions for high-scale data environments that support high transaction volume and IoT solutions
- Knowledge of Data Governance principles
- Complete comfort, understanding, and conversancy in articulating the ROI on corporate data initiatives

- Microsoft technical certifications relative to Azure and Data and Analytics.
- Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Prior management experience is a plus
- Process-oriented with great documentation skills.
