About the Project
The non-profit Kühne Foundation is a Swiss foundation with German roots and a global orientation. The foundation supports projects in the areas of Logistics, Medicine, Culture and Climate. It has offices in different regions of the world.
 
In the Climate focus area, the foundation develops and implements innovative solutions for the logistics of climate action to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy and ensure the transport and logistics sector supports climate-friendly and sustainable development at a global and local level. The Kühne Climate Center based in Hamburg is being established over the next few years (the climate team currently consists of seven people), collaborating with project teams in East Africa and Europe.
  
For this purpose, we are looking to recruit a  
 
Logistics Expert (80-100%) 
(Hamburg)
 
to support the multidisciplinary climate team. The contract will initially be limited to three years, with the option of renewal after three years.
 
We are looking for someone with a broad understanding of logistics and supply chains and experience of climate action who can provide logistics expertise to support the global activities of the Kühne Climate Center (KCC).
Your mission
Expertise and Analysis 
  • Provide logistics and supply chain management expertise in support of KCC’s thematic and sectoral projects e.g. the logistics of Carbon Dioxide Removal, the logistics of expanding offshore wind power etc.,  
  • Provide insights on logistics trends and challenges relevant to climate action and development,
  • Provide logistical analyses (e.g. cost/benefit analysis, emissions calculation) of specific problems, develop solutions, and formulate recommendations (e.g. transporting CO2, mode shift projects)
Capacity Development
  • Develop the Kühne Climate Center’s advisory approach and capacity as a logistics and supply chain consultant for the climate industry
  • Provide assessments and advice to partner organizations on managing their logistics and supply chain operations
  • Provide expertise in the context of trainings and workshops by the Foundation
Your profile
The role requires outstanding organizational, communication, and analytical skills and an ability to develop innovative solutions in a fast-changing international environment. 
 
 Advanced academic degree (Masters or higher) and at least ten years of real-world logistics experience, 
  • Ability to provide concise and insightful analyses of logistics issues,
  • Broad understanding of the logistics industry and market across modes,   
  • Experience of working in or with low and/or middle-income countries,
  • Experience of working on sustainability and/or climate, 
  • Outstanding analytical thinking as well as excellent problem-solving and strategic planning skills,
  • Organizational skills (hands-on mentality) and excellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment,
  • Experience of teaching or training in the field of logistics an advantage,
  • Fluent in English and at least one other language,
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office,
  • Availability for occasional travel and on-site meetings with the climate team.
