Position Summary
The Movement Infrastructure (MI) Basket (working title) Director will report to the Executive Director (ED) and work closely with the Administrative Director (AD). This position will be responsible for the development and strategic leadership of Native Movement’s Movement Infrastructure Basket of work, which includes the Community Affiliate Collective (fiscal sponsorship) and Movement Fund (regranting) initiatives. The Movement Infrastructure Basket is one of three Native Movement baskets, joining the Action & Advocacy and the Community Education Baskets of work. Our Movement Infrastructure Basket is crucial to fulfilling our vision and mission. This work is Native Movement's direct contribution to the growth, sustainability, and strength of an Alaska Movement at-large, because strong justice Movements require more than one organization, more than a few leaders, and many strategies. The Movement Infrastructure (MI) Basket Director will supervise a team of two to five staff members. This position will serve as part of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall organizational well-being, growth, and cross-program collaborations.
MI Basket Strategic Plan Goals and Objectives
Grow and support an increased number of visionary, liberatory, grassroots building groups throughout Alaska.
Help redistribute wealth and decision-making through relationships of trust. Move funding to grassroots work for liberatory, radical, visionary leadership, intersectional issues, and Indigenized mutual aid.
Develop a strong public-facing program narrative that uplifts the community and creates open, constructive, and positive relationships. Narratives that uplift investing in and following community leadership, modeling reciprocal giving (potlatch), and underscore the extractive oppressive history of wealth accumulation and capitalism of colonialism.
Integrate Community Affiliate partners into greater collaborations across Native Movement teams, with the collective of Community Affiliates, and with allied partners.
Essential Job Function
MI Basket Strategic Development and Implementation
Oversee the continued growth, development, and implementation of the MI Basket, ensuring that all areas are cohesive, well resourced, and in alignment with Native Movement’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
Support fundraising efforts for the basket area of work, with particular focus on Regranting.
Regarding Community Affiliate / Fiscal Sponsorship Support
Continuously assess the program’s capacity and staffing needs.
Work with staff to assess and improve our support for Community Affiliates and their needs.
As a part of the MI team, help build and maintain good and caring relationships with Community Affiliates.
Oversee the development of resources for the Community Affiliate Collective (CAC), such as the CAC handbook, online portal, facilitation support, etc..
Work with the Administrative Team to streamline processes and communication related to fiscal sponsorship and needs.
Collaborate with the Executive Director in the development of outward-facing narrative.
Regarding Movement Fund / Regranting
Oversee the development and implementation of Movement Fund Regranting initiatives and assess impact, aligned with MI basket goals.
Team collaboration to nurture and deepen relationships with grantee partners.
Oversee the development of outward-facing narrative and community outreach for regranting opportunities to the community.
Ensure the program grows in line with NM values, while remaining compliant with federal and state laws.
Staff Supervision
Potential combination of in-person and remote supervision.
Ensure that the established goals are being met and that staff have the support they need.
Collaborate with Executive Director and Administrative Director to resolve conflict or situations according to our guiding principles.
Lead the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of CAP staff according to the NM values and organizational goals.
Organizational Leadership
Serve as a member of the NM Executive Leadership team, participating in organization-wide decision making.
Modeling NM’s core values, including maintaining a positive, professional and supportive organizational culture.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and the Grants Manager to secure funding for the Basket at-large, including Regrants Fund.
Non-Essential Job Functions
Additional or shifted responsibilities to be identified as the organization evolves.
Some travel to other Alaska locations as needed.

Supervision Received and Exercised
This position will report to the Executive Director. Additionally, this position supervises two to four Movement Infrastructure Basket staff members. Remote supervision may be required.
Work Environment and Demands of the Role

This position will work primarily on-site in the Anchorage office. Generally, the office environment is calm, with some days of higher activity due to organizational events. Some noise from people in the office is expected, and may increase during events. We are a family-friendly workplace, so children of all ages may be present at any time. Dogs are allowed in the office, so there may be occasional barking and dogs walking throughout the building. This position may require travel within the state. Possibility of a flexible schedule and may need to be available for evenings and/or weekends..
The physical demands of this position require the ability to occasionally remain in a stationary position, move or traverse throughout an office and event spaces. Occasionally must be able to transport objects through the office for various needs. Must be able to commute to and from an office and event space. Requires the ability to ascend a flight of stairs, several times a day. Additionally, the employee must be able to exchange information and ideas so that others will understand, receive and understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, and exercise independent judgment.
