Your missions

Mercury is building a complete finance stack for startups. We work hard to create the easiest and safest banking* experience possible to simplify entrepreneurs' and business owners’ financial lives. To enable this stellar banking experience, we need to have a deep understanding of our customers from the moment they onboard and mature it each time they interact with our product. We are looking to hire a strategist to bring risk expertise and an analytical approach to our onboarding risk strategy, driving impact in this crucial space.

Risk Strategy is a hybrid team deeply focused on data analytics and risk thought leadership (i.e., strategy) within Mercury. This team identifies, assesses, and proactively mitigates the financial, regulatory, and reputational risks faced by Mercury via data-driven analytics and product/process improvement while maintaining a stellar experience for our customers that fosters trust in our platform.

*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC

As part of the journey, we would expect you to:

  • Utilize data and quantitative analysis to develop strategy for managing customer risk while navigating trade-offs in a principled and balanced way
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal to ensure product and operational solutions meet regulatory requirements
  • Work cross functionally with product, engineering, and operations teams get in the weeds on opportunities within our risk program
  • Develop domain expertise and proactively seek out opportunities to close gaps and optimize processes

Some things that might make you successful in a role like this:

  • 4+ years of experience in an analytical role, including 2+ years in risk, financial services/fintech, trust and safety, or a related field; bonus if it’s in a startup environment
  • Strong SQL skills and experience in applying those to improve and monitor business performance
  • Confidence with using data and intuition to make decisions in a fast paced, ambiguous environment, while demonstrating curiosity and a growth mindset.

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:

  • US employees (any location) : $173,600 - $204,200
  • Canadian employees (any location): CAD 158,000 - 185,800
