The selected Communications Generalist will be supporting critical financial applications within the Veterans Affairs, which directly affects our soldier's and military family's well-being. Our teams are built with customer service-focused professionals to meet and exceed our customer's expectations. The successful Commutations Manager will work with stakeholders to drive communication efforts and bring new ideas to light.

Responsibilities:

Executive Communications

  • Establish Communications strategies to ensure consistent messaging to internal and external stakeholders
  • Update, design and maintain Communications toolkit with best practices to implement
  • Create, Design and prepare all material to support client events i.e. Briefings, Offsite Meeting, etc.
  • Implement and track effectiveness of various campaigns and course corrections as required
  • Write and Maintain as requested Communications Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Solicit communications input from diverse stakeholders in different technical and business disciplines and be able to translate into common, simplified business English

General

  • Develop, support, and promote clients’ teams to create cohesive designs that reflect corporate cultures and goals, including message development
  • Work closely with clients, leaders, and executives to develop and strengthen employee engagement activities
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders to find creative solutions to complex problems; Researches and creates content
  • Responsible for drafting and editing written deliverables that meet client contract requirements; Provides quality assurance of all deliverables
  • Engage with other internal teams (communications, quality, strategic) to gain required approval on content and accuracy
  • Develop, support, research, create content on all Digital Communications web or digital platform, SharePoint
  • Build, maintain and manage Communications library (Briefings, promotional material, website, etc.) various Microsoft SharePoint sites
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Work simultaneously on 5+ projects based on current client workload
  • Strong presentation design portfolio demonstrating expert level in PowerPoint including use of multiple masters, color themes, animations, actions, and video
  • Work special projects as required
  • Ensure organization branding is streamlined through all communication channels and platforms
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of related work experience, including at least 3 years of experience proofreading and editing all facets of corporate communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational, and strong interpersonal skills are required. Candidates should be able to provide a portfolio of work samples.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take the initiative to ensure business goals are met and exceeded.
  • Strong Interpersonal and Communication skills
    • able to actively listen to others and receive and send/brief information to groups or individuals in a succinct, clear, and professional manner verbally in person or virtually as well as in writing.
    • able to work effectively with other professionals to develop internal marketing plans and strategies and evaluate communications initiatives.
  • Ability to author complete plans from start to finish, gathering input from a variety of stakeholders, often around communications. Examples include enterprise communication plan, rapid response plan, product line communication plan, brand plan, graphic standards, and content management plan for SharePoint
  • Ability to facilitate focus groups to elicit information or drive participants to solutions.
  • Advanced writing and copy-editing skills to include a fundamental understanding of plain writing.
  • Project management – to enable planning, managing, and executing a variety of communications or organizational projects, such as cross-service/department initiatives.
  • To desire and be able to quickly learn new web-based communication-related programs & apps
  • Experience working in a public organizational setting, whether as an employee or client (federal, state, county, township etc.)
  • Experience with executive level presentations and memorandums
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; Creative and the ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, independently and as a team member.
  • Must be detail oriented and have ability to deal with ambiguity in day-to-day operations.
  • Tools:
  • Advanced skills in MS Suite, SharePoint
  • Experience in Adobe Create Cloud (specifically, Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Canva (Nice to have)

Nice to Have Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of VA Financial Services Center and/or Integrated Financial Management System (iFAMS)
  • Experience with and a working knowledge of GovDelivery
  • Experience in writing newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, one-page information pages, and other related products
  • Experience in speech writing
  • Graphic design skills
  • Proficiency in managing content on SharePoint.
  • Advance knowledge management skills
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and ensuring communications are 508 compliant
  • Knowledge of change management principals

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, English/Journalism, or related field (or equivalent)

Clearance

  • Ability to obtain Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) clearance

Salary Information: 

  • The pay for this position ranges from $89,000 to $96,000.
  • The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as bonuses.
