The Opportunity:
We want your passion for storytelling and news to bring new readers to The Gazette. Reporters have a keen understanding of what makes a great story and know how to tell it. As a self-starter that leads with curiosity and initiative, you will form strong connections with the community and report in a fair and balanced manner.
What you’ll do:
Work independently to curate sources and find new stories on assigned beat.
Represent the company professionally when dealing with sources and the community
Adhere at all times to Postmedia's Journalism Code of Conduct. Bring errors to the attention of the Managing Editor as soon as they are discovered
Collaborate productively with colleagues on stories as directed by the Managing Editor
Engage with our analytics software to understand the impact of stories and adjust strategy to increase relevance of work
Work with the Managing Editor to consistently improve performance
All other duties as required.
Who you are:
A track record of excellence in journalism
Journalism degree/diploma
Travelling by personal vehicle to assignments, taking photographs, interviewing sources and attending public meetings and events as directed.
Fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism and social media.
Ability to work quickly and independently, meet multiple deadlines, and make efficient decisions.
Familiarity with data journalism and investigative reporting.
Bilingual English and French
Ability to multi-task
Willingness to work evenings and weekends (as required)
Valid driver’s license
Must speak French
