JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Research Faculty to join our Computational Methods Development Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL/Penn State’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). You will be involved in all aspects of existing High Performance Computing (HPC) implementations and administration, both in-house and at other leading institutions, while working with top researchers in their fields to execute state of the art software, with end-goals of transitioning and fielding systems for the U.S. Department of Defense.
In this role you will:
Perform physics-based code development, verification, and validation in new and existing business areas, including overset grid methods, unstructured and adaptive grid algorithms, multiphase flows, vehicle maneuvering, fluid-structure interaction, ship hydrodynamics, and turbo-machinery
Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art DES/LES and fluid-structure interaction codes
Develop and maintain business relationships and programs with other ARL offices, industry, and government
Contribute to the Laboratory’s commitment to Penn State academic initiatives including (but not limited to) advising graduate students, membership on Graduate Faculty Boards, publications of technical papers/journal articles, and participation at technical conferences
Non-tenure faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Typical requirements include a Master’s Degree (or MSc), PhD preferred, in an engineering, information technology, or other related scientific discipline.
Required skills/experience areas include:
C++, version control systems, and parallel programming
CFD analysis and/or development of CFD algorithms or models
Creating computational meshes for use in CFD analyses
Effective at producing scientific reports and presenting findings/conclusions resulting from CFD and engineering analyses
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
Additional knowledge of commercial codes, especially STAR-CCM+
Pointwise and post-processing tools
Active government security clearance
Your working location will be hybrid on-site/work from home in State College, PA, depending on project requirements. Domestic and international travel will occasionally be required.
