Role/Responsibilities:

Moody’s is seeking a dynamic and technology-driven leader to join as an SVP – Moody’s Analytics Controller.  This role will serve as a strategic advisor to senior sales and business leaders on complex contract and business strategies and their accounting and financial reporting implications. 

This newly created position will report to the MD-Assistant Controller, with a dotted reporting line to the MA CFO.  This position will partner closely with senior MA business leaders and the MA Business Planning Team, advising on complex revenue accounting and reporting arrangements and related topics (e.g., cost to obtain contracts; costs to fulfill contracts; complex partnership arrangements; capitalized software development costs).  

This role requires a deep understanding of accounting issues that impact software-as-a-service (SaaS) organizations and can effectively partner and communicate with senior leaders across the MA business.  

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
•    Dedicated strategic partner to the MA business, advising on complex contractual arrangements (e.g., partnership arrangements; strategic accounts; co-developed products) 
•    Evaluate commercial and go-to-market strategies and formulate structural recommendations to the business
•    Assist revenue accounting deal desk function with complex revenue accounting arrangements
•    Build expertise around MA’s product offerings and engage with the business on strategy and development roadmaps
•    Advance and automate data collection and analysis activities
•    Collaborate with business finance team leaders and revenue accounting teams to develop and execute on new disclosure strategies and ensure best-in-class management and external reporting 
•    Partner with corporate accounting team on accounting and reporting issues related to the capitalization of internal-use capitalized software and capitalized costs to obtain/fulfill contracts (i.e., commissions)
•    Develop business playbooks for key accounting processes; lead change management around accounting policy and process changes 
•    Partner with business finance team leaders in the development of project budgets and forecasts (i.e., management accounting/reporting around investment roadmaps)  
•    Collaborate with Moody's financial systems team to support systems configurations that support business reporting needs
•    Partner with M&A accounting team on complex revenue accounting implications that arise from acquisitions.  Assist with integration efforts for newly acquired entities.

Keys To Success in This Role Include:

•    Very strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP topics that impact SaaS businesses (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 350-40) and ability to apply complicated provisions in these standards to Moody’s contracts and business strategy
•    Ability to interact/build strong relationships with senior sales and business stakeholders and peer finance leaders
•    Superior verbal/written communication skills enabling the translation of technical accounting concepts into relatable business processes 
•    Strong initiative, comfortable working within an entrepreneurial environment and assuming a strong sense of ownership for all areas of responsibility 
•    Ability to lead/coordinate work across teams within a dynamic organization to implement new processes and reporting structures and lead projects

Qualifications:
•    BA or BS degree in accounting or equivalent and 10+ years of relevant experience 
•    Experience working with a large, multi-national SaaS company
•    Deep knowledge of ASC 606, particularly around SaaS solutions, is required
•    CPA qualification is required
•    Superior written and verbal communication skills
•    Experience enabling technology to automate and streamline processes is a plus (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, GenAI, SAP RAR)

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $192,500 -  $279,200, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
