ROLE SUMMARY

The Manager, Middle School Counseling is responsible for supporting the creation and implementation of innovative and consistently high-quality comprehensive school counseling programs with a focus on the middle years (grades 6-10). This role offers the opportunity to be part of a newer and growing team that supports Alliance’s aspiration of 75% or more of our scholars graduating from a 4-year college or university. The Manager, Middle School Counseling will be part of the Alliance Counseling and College Success Team, reporting to the Director, School Counseling. They will work collaboratively with the larger Schools Strategy Team and cross-functionally across organizational departments. 

 WHAT YOU WILL DO

Support the Director of School Counseling  in the development of a continuously improving comprehensive school counseling program for all scholars

  • Contribute to the development of a middle school counseling curriculum which includes experiences that scholars should receive in grades 6-8 to support their academic, socioemotional development, and college and career development.

  • Create and support programming for grades 6-10 to foster a college-going mindset that increases college admissions knowledge, encourages career exploration and fosters college persistence

  • Collaborate with fellow CCST staff in developing tools and implementing  supports for grades 9-10

  • Develop and implement resources, data tools, and policies to support middle school counselors

Manage implementation of a comprehensive middle school counseling vision and strategies across a portfolio of schools

  • Coach middle school counselors on best practices to support comprehensive counseling practices including: academic progress monitoring, socioemotional learning development, career exploration, etc.

  • Provide professional development programs for school staff on topics related to the school counseling program and supporting scholar achievement

  • Build relationships with instructional superintendents and school leaders and provide guidance on planning and managing a successful school counseling program

  • Implement and monitor qualitative and quantitative benchmarks in systems such as Naviance and PowerSchool

Develop and implement programming directly to scholars, school sites and parents that support the Counseling and College Success Team vision

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with other Home Office and Counseling and College Success staff and community organizations to provide services to scholars (e.g. academic support, early college and career programming, out-of-school experience opportunities, and socioemotional skill building, etc)

  • Work with school counselors and administrators to ensure schools and scholars take full advantage of opportunities including those within the developing Middle School Family Toolkit

  • Collaborate with Parent Engagement Specialists to provide opportunities for parent education programs (e.g. develop a middle School to High School transition programming, implement a series of family college access workshops including  G.P.A. awareness, SEL development, career exploration, etc.)

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of School Counseling

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of professional work experience within an urban school environment or organization, at least 2 of those years in middle school counseling or related field

    • A valid California Pupil Personnel Service Credential (PPS) with an authorization in School Counseling

    • A Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or another related field preferred

WORK LOCATION

This position is a hybrid role that includes a combination of working from home, our network office, and travel to school sites. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work-from-home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience as well as generous retirement and health benefits. This position is exempt.

  • Compensation: Alliance provides a competitive salary. Based on relevant prior work experience, our salary range for this role is $72,000-$105,000. This position is also eligible for a $3,750 hiring bonus paid in two installments over the first year of employment. 

  • Relocation: Individuals residing outside of the Greater Los Angeles area are eligible for a relocation bonus of $5,000 for individuals and $7,500 new staff with families/partners. 

  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans options that are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards family plan premiums.

  • Retirement: Alliance Home Office employees are eligible for a retirement allowance equal to 7.5% of their regular yearly earnings.

  • Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 hours/month for a maximum of 180 hours in addition to 10 national holidays as well as a week for Spring Break and a week for Winter Break. 

  • Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and development. Home Office staff are allocated $500 per year for professional development expenses.
