The Customer Identity & Access Management group at KCS build and maintain secure, reliable, and easy to use authentication, authorization and security features for KCS’s customers, products and services.
We’re looking for a backend engineer to join our authentication team, contributing new features to our login experience and authentication services. This is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of accelerating a rework of KCS’s identity management solutions! Ideal candidates will possess excellent problem solving skills, be driven to help customers, and be passionate about crafting and scaling authentication solutions for large scale use cases.
What you’ll be doing
- Work with a closely knit team with multifaceted strengths to deliver value to our customers by building a secure, easy-to-use login experience.
- Deliver enterprise grade software and experience some of the challenges presented working at a global scale. We own some of the largest scale services within KCS.
- Solve customer problems in collaboration with our outstanding customer advocates.
- Champion standard methodologies, high quality code, and appropriate test coverage. We ship code frequently and fast, but stability and reliability must never be compromised.
- Design and build solutions to achieve a unified identity management system across KCS services.
What you bring to the role
Basic Qualification:
- Prior experience in a backend or full-stack application engineering role
- Proven understanding of web application development and excellent knowledge of at least 1 server-side scripting language
- Excellent communication and time-management skills
- You believe building phenomenal software is a team effort and enjoy learning together through pairing, code reviews, tech talks, etc.
- Comfortable taking ownership of all phases of software engineering: design, development, testing, deployment, and operational issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience owning Ruby or JVM services in a production environment
- Experience using monitoring/alerting to ensure the reliability of a system
Tech Stack
- Our code is a split between Ruby on Rails and microservices written in Scala
- We use AWS Aurora to store data in MySQL and Kafka to stream events between services
- We use Kubernetes and AWS to deploy and scale our applications
