This position is a part-time, temporary position and has a pay rate of $18.00 per hour.

The role will occasionally require in-person presence, but the majority of assignments can be completed remotely.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Job Summary

 

Under the direction of a Case Manager provides resettlement support services to qualifying refugee clients in accordance with contract, organization and accreditation standards.

This position will support with late night arrival logistics for operations in Troy and Flint. The position will be required to be in person at times but mostly can complete assignments remotely.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Coordinate with Case Manager on all pre-arrival case activities, including housing arrangements and communications with US Ties and co-sponsors.
  2. Complete home safety inspections as required. Furnish homes with furniture and required supply items.
  3. Conduct initial airport reception and home safety orientation for arriving refugees.
  4. Complete applications for Social Security card, public benefits and other applicable registrations within the required time periods.
  5. Document all visits, case activity and all efforts to meet refugee needs as outlined by Operational Guidance.
  6. Provide transportation for all New American services as required or needed, in compliance with applicable child safety laws.

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, community services preferred.

Experience

 

  • One year experience in refugee related casework and community services preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Ability and willingness to work with refugees.
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English. Bilingual preferred but not required.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience towards persons served. Basic understanding of refugee services.
  • Ability to work constructively with staff and clients. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals.
  • Ability to identify needs and problems, and communicate them to case managers for follow up.
  • Basic knowledge of or ability to learn to utilize various computer programs including Excel spreadsheet and graphic programs.

 

Additional Work Requirements

 

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record; reliable ongoing personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients; current automobile registration and proof of automobile insurance.

Physical and Mental Requirements

 

  • Ability to lift/carry small children, and restrain older children up to 100 pounds.
  • Near visual acuity; hand-eye coordination; hand and finger dexterity.
