Job description

A little about who we are

Taxually is a global transactions tax SaaS scale up offering a suite of products to enhance the way its clients manage their tax processes. Founded in 2018, Taxually has grown nearly 300% year on year, and now works with over 12,000 customers in more than 60 countries. We have built, and continue to build, the most advanced technology within the tax sector, which has resulted in numerous members of the Fortune 500 adopting our solutions and strong Private Equity backing.

We have a dedicated, hard working, growing team - the type of person who works here is driven, motivated, empowered and forward thinking. We want people to challenge, to bring new ideas and to add to the growth of Taxually.

Our culture

We don’t offer baroque job titles or set up rigid reporting lines. Instead, we build our team through trust, equality and fairness, giving our people autonomy and freedom to achieve their highest potential.

What we look for

We are seeking an experienced US Sales and Use Tax Manager to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have more than 5 years of experience in managing sales and use tax compliance, authorities notifications and SUT research. This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and use tax compliance functions, ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws, and providing guidance to optimise tax processes.

What you'll be doing

Tax Compliance:

  • Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of all state and local sales and use tax returns for multiple clients.
  • Ensure clients’ compliance with all state and local sales and use tax laws and regulations.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and help update compliance processes accordingly.

Notification Management:

  • Develop a process to handle notifications from tax authorities, including resolution support where needed
  • Prepare and provide documentation and responses to tax authorities.

Systems and Process Improvement:

  • Maintain and improve sales and use tax compliance systems and processes for the firm and its clients.
  • Implement automation and other tools to streamline tax compliance and reporting for clients.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to enhance tax-related systems
Ability to explain complex issues in an easy and understandable manner.

What skills will be useful

We look for people with a start-up mentality, meaning:

  • hard working
  • able to work independently with no micro-management
  • focus on solving problems
  • adaptable and flexible approach
  • works well under pressure
  • works well in a team
  • able to think of solving problems at scale, not one-by-one

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in U.S. sales and use tax compliance and management.
  • Canadian sales tax (including GST/HST, PST, RST, and QST) knowledge is not required but would be considered a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Previous experience with tax technology or a strong interest in the area.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

What you can count on

You'll get to work in one of the hottest tax technology startups in the world right now. You'll receive excellent training and guidance from our team members who believe in what Taxually stands for. The type of person who works here is driven, motivated, empowered and proud.

Don't meet all of the role requirements?

Don't worry! We care about outcomes rather than tickbox criteria, and it's often the case that the perfect person for the role has a CV that looks a little different.

Research (by Harvard University 🤓) shows that women are particularly likely to second-guess themselves and not apply — so if you’re worried you don’t meet all the criteria, get in touch anyhow and let us do the worrying.

At Taxually, we are committed to building a company that includes people from a variety of different backgrounds. We're particularly interested in hearing from people from typically underrepresented groups in the tech industry.
