Role Purpose
We are looking for a strong data architecture leader in the Data Platform team to drive technical strategy with inputs from business to shape and build cloud data platform in Azure. This role is responsible for working across the architecture community to align data architecture with business, solution, app, and API architecture framework.
This individual will be building a team of data architects and data engineers designing and building our modern cloud data architecture that align with the DaaS vision.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Establishes data architecture practices that are used by data architects, data modelers, and data engineers.
- Leads a team of functional, technical, data architects, data engineers to deliver data solutions across MVH business units to product complete models of the data architectures.
- Engages with data platforms stakeholders / partners to understand their needs and provide guidance on what DaaS techniques are appropriate solutions.
- Evaluate cutting edge technology for data innovation to find opportunities or solutions that help accelerate our DaaS and product roadmap.
- Provide leadership to define overall data engineering best practices, data standards, data security and data management.
- Mentor junior team members and serve as a role model for data architects and data engineers across teams.
- Partner cross-functionally with BI, Data & Analytics, Data Science, and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure we are meeting needs for enterprise-wide data architecture practices.

- Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
- Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
- Environment where pets are present.
Experience, Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related area (data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.) is required.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science is preferred.
- 10 years of experience in cloud data architecture and data engineering is required.
- Extensive cloud data architecture and data engineering experience is required.
- Demonstrated leadership presence and ability to lead with influence is required.
- Hand-on experience with Databricks, SQL, Power BI, cloud based data architectures, and Azure is required.
- People leadership experience is required.
- Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.
Salary: $151,000 – $227,000
