Summary and Qualifications:
We are looking for a Data Platform Architect for the Mars Veterinary Health Enterprise Data Platform team to assist in creating and driving technical strategy with inputs from business to shape and build Azure and Databricks based cloud environment and accelerate the adoption of business-driven data products and services to our customers.
This is a key technical and strategic leadership role that is an individual contributor who can drive the architecture and help in developing the data ingestion pipelines and data platform architecture that supports the analytical and reporting needs of internal stakeholders, data scientists, and our practice management systems. It is a champion for global data management, governance, and quality. The role is responsible for effectively analyzing, planning, organizing, and leading data, AI and ML projects in support of production applications while managing risk, workload, scope, capacity, schedule, and budget. This role will also ensure the resiliency and scale of the data platform. This position works closely with project sponsors, business and technical partners, subject matter experts, end users, and technical resources (internal and third-party vendors).
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
- Understand our complex data ecosystem.
- Work with the product team and stakeholders to translates business requirements for data across the company into technical roadmap and architecture for the platform.
- Act as the leading data domain expert and owns platform data architecture.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of reliable, scalable and efficient data infrastructure, data driven products and software solutions for external and internal customers.
- Identifies and prioritizes the right solutions to solve ambiguous, open-ended and complex problems in the data platform.
- Stay current on the latest data technology; present comprehensive, well-thought-out evaluations of technological and design choices to improve data platform offering, efficiency, and scalability.
- Provide leadership to define overall data engineering best practices, data standards, data security and data governance.
- Mentor junior team members and serve as a role model for engineers across teams.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions:
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
- Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
- Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
- The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
- Environment where pets are present.
Experience, Education and/or Training:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Extensive hands-on experience working with large datasets, pipelines, modern warehouse technologies, and data processing (real-time and batch) at large scale is required.
- Deep understanding of data and how it relates to architecture (Data ingestion, Realtime, Batch, SQL, NoSQL, Analytics) is required.
- Must have experience with Databricks, Kafka, AWS, Azure, cloud data architectures, and tools.
- Proficiency with .NET, Python, or Java is preferred.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and ELT processes are required.
- Healthcare background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.
Salary: $118,796 -- $178,193
