Job Description:

Saybrook University is seeking a Graduate Studies Advising Assistant to join the Division of Student Life. This is a Federal Work Study position.

The Student Life Graduate Studies Advising Assistant (GSAA) serves as a para-professional and provides support for the Graduate Studies Advising Center to assist with developing initiatives in support of student retention and engagement at Saybrook University. The GSAA role will perform administrative, clerical, and research-related tasks that maintain and advance the resources and programming provided by Student Life and the Advising Center. The GSAA plays an integral role in assisting with departmental programming, conducting research on relevant topics related to student affairs and student advising for the department.

Position Qualifications:

  • Outstanding customer service abilities including in person, phone, and electronic communications.

  • Excellent office skills, including typing, organization, and attention to detail.

  • Computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data entry.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Flexible and quick learner with a high retention rate.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with program planning, event implementation, and database programs, graphic design, social media.

  • Able to perform basic clerical and administrative tasks and provide general departmental assistance to Student Affairs staff.

  • Academically in good standing (at least 4 semesters or more)

  • Qualify for Federal Work Study (FWS).

Duties:

  • Support Student Life and Advising programming through assistance with research, logistics, marketing, material preparation, onsite implementation, and post-event evaluation.

  • Support Academic Advising with the onboarding process for new students (i.e, Student Support Services New Student Orientation, Getting Started Course) and outreach that enhances persistence of continuing students.

  • Assist with researching and generating ideas to advance student life programming, monthly advising series content, and other student support services at Saybrook.

  • Other duties as assigned.
