About the Role 

Successful Senior Solutions Engineers combine technical knowledge of the products or services they are selling with strong interpersonal and communication skills.  They are the key technical resource working with a prospect or current customer to uncover best-fit solutions, providing solutions recommendations, training, technical expertise, and assistance with on-boarding and implementation.  Typically a Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, or longer term hands on equivalent experience.  

This role will report to: Chief Platform Architect 

Desired Skills and Experience 

  • Experience with custom solutions involving implementation of Enterprise Cloud Computing solutions.  

  • Act as the primary technical resource for the StackPath Sales Team, with special focus on Cloud Computing Solutions for Strategic Partnerships, which involves regularly interacting with C-level executives. 

  • Drive technical discussions and provide demonstrations and technical assistance to prospects and existing customers to assist the sales team in generating new business, expand existing business, keep customers happy, and reach our company's revenue goals. 

  • Strong polished communication skills including listening to prospects needs, asking appropriate technical questions, architecting a solution, escalating requirements as needed to product management and engineering, and project managing the customer on-boarding lifecycle. 

  • Often acts as the technical liaison and project manager between the customer, product management, development, support, and engineering, keeping communications responsive for customer needs.   

  • Provide technical assistance in a pre-sales capacity for new prospects and customers is the primary responsibility, although some post-sales technical assistance and project management for existing customers is also required. 

  • Gain technical expertise in StackPath’s global distributed network and technology to allow you to recommend solutions for prospects and customers, following through to technically implement, educate, onboard, troubleshoot, and document technical solutions.  

  • Perform customer calls and presentations/demonstrations with new customers or prospects via video-conference or in person ( limited in person visits ). 

  • As a subject matter expert in Cloud Computing, you are a trusted source for developing solutions, crafting performance caching and delivery strategies, and assisting with Edge Computing implementations. 

  • Are passionate and curious about technology and have the ability to explain complex technical concepts in easy-to-understand terms. 

  • Responsible for technical pre-sale process including performing presentations and demonstrations, technical qualification and discovery, solution identification and design, proof of concept configuration and implementation, and issue escalations and resolutions.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for this position both internally and externally. Comfortable working with both C-level enterprise executives and as well as end-users and developers. 

  • Comfortable explaining APIs and educating customers on API usage. 

  • Provide technical enablement training for Sales Team and Strategic customers/partners. 

  • Coordinate with other departments (Product, Marketing, Support) to accomplish related tasks. 

  • Strong ability to manage projects and multitask, working on multiple projects simultaneously and recognizing higher priorities. 

  • Work with customers and prospects providing technical advice for best solution based on StackPath’s products and features, with guidance to help them understand benefits of the solution. 

  • The role may involve limited travel including meetings with customers or prospects, attending conferences and industry events, although most customer interaction will be provided remotely through video conferencing tools. 

    

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of technical pre-sales experience, with at least 3 years in a cloud computing technical customer facing pre-sales role. 

  • 3+ years experience working with large enterprises implementing hybrid cloud connectivity and enterprise compute solutions. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar level of hands on experience. 

  • Experience with Cloud Computing Services, Compute Infrastructure, Colocation, Transit, and Internet based SaaS.  

  • Experience in Cloud Computing Interconnects such as AWS Direct Connect, Azure Express Route, IBM Direct Link preferred. 

  • Expertise with internet technologies such as HTTP(S), anycast/multicast core networking components, OSI Model layers 1-7, TCP/UDP, DNS, BGP routing, MPLS, LAN/WAN, and QoS.  

  • Experience and strong knowledge with containers, container networking, Kubernetes, and Virtual Machines. 

  • Understanding of Compute overlay networking, including knowledge of Linux and Linux networking. 

  • Strong Technical, Communication, and Collaborative skills working with Enterprise Customers and C-Level executives.  

  • Multi-tasking and project management, as a Senior Solutions Engineer will be managing multiple tasks and projects at all times. 

  • Ability to architect solutions and troubleshoot and resolve complex issues. 

  • Strong focus on Web Technologies and Enterprise Level Cloud Computing. 

  • Hands-on and basic understanding of Compute and Internet architecture. 

  • HTTP/1.0 - HTTP/2.0 protocol stack  

  • Load balancing 

  • DNS 

  • TCP/UDP 

  • BGP 

  • Compute Architecture 

  • Containers, Kubernetes, Virtual Machines implementation 

  • API 

  • Networking and routing 

  • Compute and networking performance 

  • Scripting ( HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python ) 

  • Knowledge of competitive cloud network offerings. 

  • Experience with CDN or Cloud Computing providers is a plus: AWS, Google, Azure, Fastly, IBM, Akamai, StackPath. 

  • Some experience with CDN is preferred. 

  • Desire to learn, teach, mentor, collaborate, and grow.
