Senior Engineer, Multimedia

Key Responsibilities:

• Ownership of multiple services or areas of work within a platform subsystem
• Owns the end-to-end delivery of tasks/features from design, development, testing to release
• Delivers high-quality code that is extensible, reliable, and performant
• Assesses technical complexity and risk, and communicates it effectively
• Responsible for handling and fixing issues as the primary owner of multiple services
• Review code changes requests to identify potential improvements and prevent errors, and approve code reviews
• Contributes to software development guidelines and best practices as part of their work
• Communicate, document and provide guidance to junior engineers around the features delivered

Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent fields
• 6 - 9 years of software engineering experience
• Proficient in designing and developing large-scale distributed systems and microservices
• Certain level of familiarity with backend development-related technology stacks such as Go/Golang, Node.js, Ruby, Javascript, Python, PostgreSQL (Mysql), RabbitMQ, Redis, AWS and GCP
• Extensive knowledge of practical operating system concepts around Linux/ Unix and networking

Good to Have:

• Prior experience in developing large-scale or high-volume consumer-facing products, including web applications and/or mobile applications
• Prior Understanding of concepts around CDN, Adaptive bitrate streaming protocols (HLS / MPEG-DASH), and DRM is plus but not required.
• We don't require experience in any particular technology, but you should have the ability to chew through complex technical problems and gain insights from them

For candidates who are able to relocate to Singapore:

• The budget is up to SGD 120-130k annual base, 15% performance based bonus
• Stocks on hire (3400 Rakuten shares vesting across 4 grant anniversaries)
• Allowance: Education support allowance - USD 1000 per year, commute and internet allowance - SGD 1200 per year.
• Medical insurance covers employees, their spouses and children including outpatient/inpatient, hospitalisation, specialist, whitecoat/tele consultation, dental, optical etc. Paid annual leave: 21 days

For candidates working remotely in Vietnam, we usually base on local cost of living and employment practices. There isn't a fixed budget to share. However, please take note:

• Independent contractor will only be paid base salary based on the number of days they work for. No additional benefits will be applicable including bonus, allowance, insurance, paid annual leave, medical leave or other benefits
