Job Description:

Parsons is hiring a Transportation & Logistics Director to support the NSF Antarctic Science and Engineering Support Contract (ASESC).  The role will be based in Colorado Springs, CO, however, remote work is permissible with occasional visits to Colorado Springs and ASECS support locations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for Parsons overall effort to supply US facilities in Antarctica, transporting personnel and cargo to/from Antarctica and other program locations.
  • Operates program staging areas in the US, New Zealand, and South America.
  • Major duties:
    • Manages USAP supply chain, including procurement, transportation, storage and warehousing, inventory control, and distribution.
    • Interfaces with the NSF OPP (OPP) on logistics support and planning.
    • Marshals and commits PARSONS resources to meet logistic support obligations.
    • Develops Annual Program Plan (APP), with input from the OPP and Division Managers, and manages the approved budget.
    • Ensures all activities are performed in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and codes imposed by the Antarctic Treaty and the US.
  • Reports to the Project Director
  • Site Managers in Christchurch, NZ, Punta Arenas, Chile, and Port Hueneme report directly to the Logistics Director.
  • Logistics Managers at McMurdo, Palmer, and South Pole report directly to the Transportation and Logistics Director.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manages the receipt, inspection, handling, transportation, storage, and reloading of cargo.
  • Manages the materials management function at each station which includes warehousing operations, materials staging, inventory control, and distribution.
  • Ensures the efficient and cost-effective deployment of all USAP participants to Antarctica, including military personnel when requested.
  • Coordinates with applicable authorities to facilitate the shipping and receipt of hazardous materials to the U.S. and ensures safe and regulatory compliant storage.
  • Leads management activity that operates U.S. Post Office functions at USAP Stations.
  • Implements and maintains a safe workplace program to ensure that safety is the highest workplace priority.

What Educations/ Skills You’ll Bring:

  • BS or BA in logistics and operations management, integrated supply change and operations management, business administration, distribution management, transportation management, or materials management from a four-year, accredited institution is required. MBA, MS or MA is desirable.
  • 10 years' logistics experience with a minimum of 8 years managing logistics personnel and operations. Experience managing logistics remote sites is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing innovative logistics approaches and adopted practices that foster continuous improvement in logistics, challenge the status-quo and existing paradigm in formulating and implementing, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective logistics programs.

Physical and Other Specific Requirements

  • Deployment to Antarctica and other travel are required in this position, and therefore the individual must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by NSF for deployment to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • The candidate must pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
  • This position is contingent upon successful contract award of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) National Science Foundation (NSF) Antarctica Support Contract (ASC) to PARSONS.

Salary Range: 

$96,400.00 - $168,700.00
