The Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE; https://www.lsu.edu/eng/ece/) in the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, seeks highly qualified candidates for a chaired professorship supported by the Oskar Menton Endowment. The position is open to candidates with expertise in all areas of power engineering, including but not limited to power systems, power electronics, electric machines and drives, and electricity market. As part of LSU’s research strategy, the university seeks to expand expertise in energy-related research. All candidates or nominees should have the education and experience commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor, including a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, and a proven track record of scholarly activity or engineering achievement, teaching, professionalism, and service. Candidates with equivalent experience from industry and National Laboratories are also encouraged to apply.

Louisiana State University is Louisiana’s Flagship University and is committed to academic excellence. It is located in Baton Rouge, the State’s capital city with high-quality housing and many cultural and recreational facilities within a short distance.

ECE Division faculty members are actively engaged in research in various areas of electrical and computer engineering such as power, communications, computing, control systems, and electronics, six of which are NSF CAREER awardees. The candidate will enhance the research and scholarly productivity of the Division by providing leadership to younger faculty members. The Menton Chair will increase the national visibility of the Division and enhance the creative atmosphere that leads to entrepreneurial activities vital for Louisiana’s economic growth and diversification. The Menton Chair will further enhance the ability of the ECE Division at the State’s flagship campus to meet the current and anticipated manpower needs of Louisiana’s existing and upcoming industries that include information technology and digital media.

Our division is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty, and we strongly encourage applications from members of groups underrepresented in electrical and computer engineering. Additionally, we seek candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to diversity and inclusion in higher education. Candidates should include a statement describing how they will develop courses that promote an inclusive learning environment, and how their scholarship and mentoring practices support a diverse academic community.

Menton Endowments:  Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Menton, who received her B.S. degree from LSU’s College of Business in 1940 funded the Oskar Menton Chair of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering in honor of her husband, Mr. Oskar R. Menton, who received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at LSU in 1938. Mr. Menton worked for Exxon upon graduation until his retirement and served in various places including Baton Rouge, Germany and Houston. He remained active with his alma mater and served as a civic leader both at Baton Rouge and in Houston. He was active in establishing several professorships in the ECE Division honoring Professor Voorhies. In 1991, Oskar and Mildred Menton also established the Oskar R. Menton Endowed Professorship in Electrical Engineering at LSU.
