Job Description:
Nursing faculty will develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing program on an ongoing basis. They will participate in selection of students, advising students, curriculum decisions, program revisions, program evaluation, resource selection, teaching in didactic/laboratory/clinical settings, and evaluation of student achievement, and other matters assigned in support of the mission of the university, division, and nursing program.
5% -Participates in interviewing, recruitment, orientation and coordination of adjunct faculty. Posts/Maintains required office hours per week consistent with university policy. Maintains punctuality/commitments in meeting assigned classes, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Maintains evidence of faculty qualification, including ongoing validation of current licensure or privilege to practice nursing in Louisiana (or compact state) and changes in educational credentials. Fosters development of team concept of program responsibility and commitment to the program objectives and mission by encouraging active participation of program members and promote rapport within the campus and community. Arranges for coverage of classes during own absences and emergency leaves. Models professional behavior and students of practice
5%- Participates in the annual budget planning process for the nursing education program budget to include operating and capital expenditures.
10%-Participates n the nursing education program's compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) and ACEN Rules and regulations, and all other state or federal regulations. Communicates accurately all nursing and university policies. Participates in an ongoing systematic evaluation of the program, as evidenced in writing, to aide in meeting/exceeding program expectations, to include NCLEX-RN passing standards in accordance with LSBN. Participates in developing, revising student policies, organizational framework, and revising curricular offerings, as deemed necessary. Identifies and advocates for services needed by students in the nursing education program. Develops and maintains ongoing relationships within the community, including fostering the nursing education program's responsiveness to community/employer needs. Participates in the orientation and advisement of students. Provides an environment conducive to learning for students. Promotes professional development of students. Assures ongoing evaluation of didactic/lab/clinical courses within the nursing program.
5% - Serves a member of the Nursing Faculty Committee and Test Review Committee with regular attendance and contribution. Serves on various university and nursing committees Program Standards, Faculty and Student Affairs
Curriculum, and Bylaws and Library and Resources based on appointment from university, nursing program director and/or semester coordinator
15% Assists students with advising, course scheduling and provides guidance in their academic/personal development. Develops remediation plans with students for student improvement and/or growth. Schedules regular meetings with students who are at risk for being unsuccessful in a course or the nursing program. Follows and implements the Student Improvement Plan process as per policy. Assists students in identifying and utilizing resources that may contribute to their success.
15% Participates with semester coordinator to develop course syllabi/calendar with all requirements for compliance purposes. Participates in the ongoing systemic evaluation of the curricula. Maintains faculty workload expectations as designated in university policies. Teaches across LSUE campuses over fall, spring, summer, and intercession semesters as assigned.
40% Maintains control of the learning environment. Utilizes a variety of teaching methods to accommodate the learning styles of the students. Provides opportunities for active students involvement through practice and application. Demonstrates a command of subject matter with consideration for diverse and cultural backgrounds. Begins and ends class, laboratory and/or clinical on time. Models and encourages a collaborative faculty-student relationship. Provide/utilizes course materials that enhance student learning and follows the course syllabus.
Conducts laboratory experiences and performs clinical supervision in clinical agencies including: Adheres to laboratory and clinical scheduled hours as designated. Assists with coordination of laboratory set up prior to student learning experience. Participates in evaluation methods for students lab performance, monitors lab supplies in stock and communicates needed supplies to lab coordinator after each lab experience. Participates in clinical orientation as required by institution. Completes validations as required by contract. Provides/ Coordinates student orientation for clinical experiences. Makes clinical assignments for students at the clinical setting at designated time. Supervises students in patient care areas in collaboration with staff. Conducts conferences with students promoting reflection of experiences. Maintains ongoing weekly evaluation of individual student progress in clinical area. Provides timely ongoing verbal and written feedback to students. Advises students toward personal development in dealing with clinical stress. Provides timely communication with the nursing program director and semester coordinator on issues that arise with students and clinical sites. Complies with university and nursing policies.

Instructor Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Nursing
Minimum of three years of nursing experience
At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. An applicant for nurse instructor must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications:
Masters of Science in Nursing
3 year experience
A wide variety of clinical experience including adult and pediatric medical/surgical, critical care, and women's services is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a current and unencumbered Louisiana/Compact Nursing License.
