Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking a Sales Tax Analyst for our Lakeville, Minnesota corporate office.

 

Job Summary:                                                              

Oversee all aspects of sales and use tax compliance for all states in which the Company operates, including state and local filings and exemption certificate management. Respond to inquiries from customers, internal employees, vendors and state and local taxing authorities related to sales tax matters. Maintain the accuracy of all customer and product sales tax information in the ERP System as well as maintenance of the Sales Tax software. This is a remote position. 


Essential Job Functions:                               

  • Oversee the timely filing of sales and use tax reports and the timely payment of amounts due. Respond to sales tax inquiries from state and local taxing authorities.
  • For new accounts, verify the customers have provided the appropriate sales tax exemption information and that it has been entered accurately in the ERP system. Respond to customer inquiries for any corrections to sales tax charges and related questions
  • Serve as a resource for MVS sales personnel related to sales tax matters including providing appropriate training.
  • For existing accounts, obtain new sales tax exemption certificates as needed to maintain compliance with state requirements or recommendations.
  • Review invoices for supplies, equipment and services to identify, report and pay any use tax liabilities. Obtain refunds of any overpayment of sales tax. Provide appropriate sales tax exemption certificates to vendors.
  • Keep abreast of changes to sales tax laws and regulations that may impact the company and update systems, processes or procedures as deemed necessary. As the company’s operations evolve/expand, identify any impact on sales tax compliance and take appropriate action as needed.
  • Prepare account reconciliations as assigned.


Job Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
  • Four-year degree in accounting is required
  • Working knowledge of sales tax
  • Experience with an ERP based sales tax system preferred
  • Experience with CCH or RIA online sales tax research systems preferred
  • Ability to read, write and speak English           
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, employment policies, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational skills to include multi-tasking
  • Strong working knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Excellent oral and written verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on customer service 
  • The ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers who have varying levels of knowledge and understanding related to sales and use tax 
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently

Work Environment:

This is a remote position. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday and may require work beyond normal business hours. Working more than 40 hours per workweek may be required. Occasional travel may be required.
