Summary of duties: 
 In collaboration with the Regional Manager of Business Development, the Business Development Specialist is responsible for the growth and development of on-site interpreting, Scheduled Virtual Interpreting (SVI), Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) services business lines within an assigned territory.  The selected candidate will develop customer relationships and drive revenue to established targets.  In addition, the candidate will collaborate with national, regional, and local operations team management and support personnel in assuring effective customer relations.      

 

Business Development Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement annual on-site business and marketing plans to achieve annual revenue goals for on-site interpreting services, Scheduled Virtual Interpreting (SVI), Video Remote Interpreting (VRI), and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) within the assigned territory.
  • Provide metrics, data, and analysis on existing business lines to help guide the strategy for on-site business and marketing plans to achieve annual revenue targets for the territory.   
  • Identify and solicit new business prospects in the assigned territory.
  • Schedule consultative meetings to qualify potential customers, discover needs, overcome objections, provide service/product solutions, and follow through to close business. 
  • Partner with Operations’ management and support teams to evaluate the feasibility of contract sales and service delivery
  • Interact with existing customers to increase sales of the company’s products and services
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, negotiation of contracts, and administration of commercial and government contracts in accordance with company policies and legal requirements
  • Collaborate with communication center management and support personnel as needed to assure effective daily operations of Purple’s services in meeting the needs of customers
  • Be knowledgeable of current operations practices, processes, and policies for the effective delivery of on-site interpreting services, Scheduled Virtual Interpreting (SVI), Video Remote Interpreting (VRI), Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART), and Video Relay Services (VRS).
  • Create and provide monthly reports to customers per contract guidelines.
  • Meet or exceed key performance indicators and/or management business objectives
  • Facilitate communications with practitioners and customers as needed
  • Research local community business practices in new markets.
  • Conduct and participate in a variety of meetings including regular staff meetings and departmental sales strategy meetings.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Business Development Specialist Skills/Qualifications:

  • •    Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
     •    3 years of experience in a Customer Service/Sales/Business Development or industry-related environment preferred
     •    Familiarity with American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture, and products and services that support the communications needs of Deaf people preferred.
     •    Familiarity with the interpreting industry to include history, trends, technology, business practices, and procedures preferred.
     •    Ability to communicate extensively and effectively through a variety of channels, including email and the Internet;
     •    Extensive ability to present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, managers, and the community.
     •    Skilled in using specialized software related to departmental operations including database, Internet, spreadsheet, instant messaging, presentation, and word processing programs.
     •    Time management skills to handle multiple, competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
     •    Sales skills for networking, developing and cultivating contacts, and building business relationships
     •    Competitive and highly motivated to meet or exceed sales metrics
     •    Flexible and enthusiastic willingness to work with constant change
     •    Openness to feedback and coaching to improve performance and sales techniques
     •    Demonstrated team building and people management skills
     •    Ability to identify and direct priorities per business needs
     •    Attentive to detail when planning and organizing projects
     •    Basic mathematical skills including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages
     •    Human relations skills to build effective working relationships with company staff, contractors, customers, community groups and individuals

 

Work environment:

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time.

 • Position may require some travel.
