Our client in Houston, Texas, is looking for a Digital Brand Journalist to join their in-house creative studio and be an integral member of the "newsroom" team!
In this role, you will report to the Managing Editor and partner closely with Content Strategists, Content Editors, and production. You will support their ambition to proactively tell their story through engaging, consumer-first digital content.
You will create stories that can be leveraged across the digital ecosystem: dot-com, newsletters, social media, paid search, and the internal news site. You should love writing and work across teams - with specific attention to detail. You thrive on creating content that connects and engages with audiences.
This is a REMOTE ongoing, long-term contract role with full-time hours (35-40 hours/week), healthcare benefits available for purchase, PTO, and 401k. **
Responsibilities:**
- Utilize the brand's research and thought leadership to create written digital content in the form of news and educational articles, video scripts, newsletters, and social media posts for internal and external audiences.
- Conduct research and interviews to learn more about communication needs, developments, and perceptions regarding the subject matter; develop new thought leadership from research findings.
- Create copy for a variety of multi-media content, including web-based articles, emails, social posts, videos, podcasts, and live webcasts.
- Partner closely with Managing Editor and Copy Editors, to ensure delivery of best-in-class content.
- Respond to edits and changes from subject matter experts with flexibility, while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Leverage analytics to tailor content to key audiences.
- Analyze traffic data and audience engagement; review rollout efforts and continually iterate on strategy.
- Identify emerging trends and timely content that is relevant to the brand.
- Effectively manage multiple strategic content projects.
- Partner closely with Managing Editor in addition to Leaders, Clients and legal throughout the organization.
- Leverage materials from other lines of business within the brand to provide audiences with relevant and timely content.
- Provide substantiation for all content developed to be used by the Legal Substantiation Liaison for compliance purposes.
- This position requires a candidate with a discerning and adaptive editorial style, with the ability to adopt and master brand guidelines and tone of voice to effectively relay company messaging through high-quality social and digital content that resonates with diverse audiences. Given the global footprint of the company, this position will need to be aware of cultural differences.
Qualifications:
- Experience level: Experienced
- BA degree in Journalism, Communications or Marketing.
- 5 years' experience in journalism, content strategy/marketing, copywriting, or communications with a mix of corporate brand side and agency/media/publications, newsroom experience a plus.
- Industry experience within Oil & Gas, Energy a huge plus.
- Ability to interface with clients and subject matter experts to understand complex topics and distill key messages.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience developing short- and long-form content across both internal and external communications.
- Excellent storytelling skills, impeccable grammar and an ability to write specifically for a variety of platforms to engage distinct audiences.
- Identify and interview subject matter experts drawing out relevant information and translating into compelling content for our clients and prospects.
- Ability to research, plan, write and edit copy on deadline.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced corporate environment.
- Strong research, reporting, interviewing and storytelling background.
- Strong strategic thinking, along with the ability to clearly articulate key objectives of a project and how it will meet KPIs/metrics to set and evaluate success.
- Ability to be agile and work well in fast-paced situations.
- Industry experience within Oil & Gas, Energy a huge plus.
