Project-based Freelance Opportunities for Designer:

Zaner-Bloser is seeking project-based freelance support with experience in a production designer role.   A project-based freelancer is not employed directly by Zaner-Bloser, Inc., and is not eligible for company benefits. This opportunity is open to remote work only.  We are actively seeking freelancers with immediate availability to support work currently in progress. If not selected, your submission will remain for future consideration as new projects are continuously arising.

The Production Designer role will work collaboratively with other designers and the Design Manager to support the Product Development team. This role is responsible for creating brand experiences through the development of a wide variety of consumer facing product offerings for the K-5 education market. The ideal candidate must be highly creative with excellent written and verbal communication skills, extremely organized, accurate, and detail oriented.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Work collaboratively with editors, copywriters, brand managers, project managers and designers to conceptualize new and revise existing print and multi-media materials while maintaining all deadlines
  • Showcase a high level of creativity, good judgement, and problem-solving skills, within fast timelines
  • Develop concepts for internal textbooks, covers, and packaging from inception to production files, based upon printer and digital templates and file-building guidelines
  • Constantly innovate from existing assets to reflect the high aesthetic standards of the brand
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of our products and current trends in design practices.
  • Build solid knowledge of our products for the Product Development department, while following specified guidelines for file naming, management, and organization
  • Demonstrate your impressive design skills, knowledge of design trends and best practices
  • Show your ability to take initiative, work with a sense of urgency and set priorities 
  • Showcase your curiosity and willingness to learn from others and your ability to quickly pivot as opportunities or needs arise

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of design experience

 

Grading/Leveling guidelines: 

  • Entry 1-2 years 

 

Skills required:

  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience with animation and video creation a plus
  • Well-developed skills in Microsoft Office Suite (especially PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with Workfront or other project management systems a plus
