Job Description:
The LSU Department of Physics & Astronomy is seeking, contingent on funding, a Postdoctoral Researcher to join our scientific computing team working within the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (http://www.ligo.org). LIGO is the ambitious project, funded by the National Science Foundation, that detected gravitational waves from colliding black holes in 2015, with a Nobel Prize awarded for this discovery in 2017.
The successful candidate will work with an existing large and diverse team to build and support software for cutting edge astronomy and astrophysics projects. Team members interact daily with the physicists, astrophysicists, and astronomers at LSU and at partner institutions. The work will be carried out as a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration at Louisiana State University (LSU), very close to the LIGO Livingston Observatory (LLO), with opportunity to collaborate with scientists at LLO.
Responsibilities:
Postdoctoral Researcher - (100%) Maintain and develop computing infrastructure for the LIGO experiment and associated tasks.
Minimum qualification: PhD in physics or a related field. Proficiency in at least one high-level scripting language such as Python, and comfortable with Unix operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiar with Redhat Linux or other Linux environments including some administration and packaging; experience with GitLab administration, GitLab project management.
